A 500 YEAR ORGAN JOURNEY

ORGAN AND ORCHESTRA MUSIC FROM BAROQUE TO MODERN

The magnificent pipe organ of the Royal Opera house Muscat comes alive as renowned Muscat organists, along with international colleagues, the newly founded Capitol Symphonie Orchester, take the audience on a fascinating journey. Opening with Antonio Valente’s 16th century “Torch Dance”, The programme ventures through the 17th and 18th centuries, crossing Europe, with classic pieces from Henry Purcell, Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi’s sparkling “Concerto for two organists and two orchestras”, and George Frideric Handel’s rarely performed “Concerto for organ and choir”. Highlights from the 19th and 20th century include Edward Elgar’s reinvention of Bach, and a very rare performance of Percy Whitlock’s “Poem” for organ and orchestra. The program concludes with Samuel Barber’s spectacular “Toccata Festiva” in the grandest possible manner.
