NORMA

Bellini’s 1831 belcanto masterpiece, Norma, is a lyrical tragedy about a priestess of the ancient Druids whose ill-fated love for Pollione, an unfaithful Roman conqueror, leads to powerful consequences.The tragic heroine’s role has challenged the world’s greatest sopranos, including twentieth-century legends Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, and Montserrat Caballé. The great Giuseppe Verdi praised Bellini for the wonderful duet, In mia man alfin tu sei, saying "No-one ever has created another more beautiful and heavenly”. Norma is brilliantly realised in ROHM’s exciting new coproduction with Opéra de Rouen, starring Romanian mezzosoprano, Elena Mosuc (Norma), Belgian tenor, Marc Laho (Pollione) and Albanian soprano, Mirjam Tola (Anna Kasyan). Staging is by the renowned stage director, Frédéric Roels and the conductor is Fabrizio Maria Carminati, an expert in belcanto repertoire.
