THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE MUSCAT PRESENTS ALEXANDER BORODIN’S OPERA, PRINCE IGOR CONDUCTED BY VALERY GERGIEV

Wednesday 26 September 2018

The first opera of ROHM's new 2018-19 Season is a spectacular work dramatising one of the greatest Russian epic tales of all time: Prince Igor of Seversk's courageous, but ill-fated military campaign against a marauding tribe of Polovtsians in twelfth-century Russia.

Composed by Alexander Borodin, a prominent composer of the late nineteenth-century Romantic era, Prince Igor premiered at the famed Mariinsky Theatre in 1890. And it is the Mariinsky Theatre that will perform the opera at ROHM in a sumptuous production with one of the world's finest conductors, Maestro Valery Gergiev directing the Theatre's Orchestra, Chorus and Ballet. Under the baton of superstar conductor Valery Gergiev, Borodin's majestic score is interpreted with stunning vision and played with consummate skill and virtuosity.

The Mariinsky Ballet will perform Borodin's famous Polovtsian Dances in a spectacular scene that provides one of the opera's many thrilling climaxes. Authentically staged, this grand historical drama of a defeated prince held captive while his princedom is in peril, relates a powerful, archetypal story of love across enemy lines and the eventual triumph of ideals over opportunism.

Prince Igor with Meastro Valery Gergiev conducting the Orchestra, Chorus and Ballet of Mariinsky Theatre is presented on Thursday 27th and Saturday 29th September at 7:00 pm.
