This thoroughly excellent production of Verdi’s grand masterpiece Aida
is staged by the world-renowned stage director William Friedkin, famous
for films such as The French Connection, and features outstanding
interpreters of the soloist roles. Set in the Old Kingdom when Egypt was
at war with Ethiopia, the story is about Aida (Kristin Lewis), an enslaved
Ethiopian princess of great beauty who bravely faces the conflict
between her love for the heroic Egyptian military commander Radamès
(Gregory Kunde), and her loyalty to her father and their people. Similarly
Radamès must choose between his ever-deepening love for Aida and
his duty to the Pharaoh. The Orchestra and Chorus are conducted by
Gianandrea Noseda, Music Director of Teatro Regio Torino and winner of
the International Opera Awards Conductor of the Year 2016.
